Morning beach walks and a photography tour to the Netagamiou falls gave people a chance to enjoy Chevery’s beautiful scenery. Coast artist Michael Osborne was a special guest at Chevery’s CoastFest celebrations and a selection of his beautiful artwork was on display all week at the Hall. He also conducted workshops about painting techniques.
The Conference part of FACTS brought together representatives from the CLD, SADC, Tourism Lower North Shore, QLF, and various community members to discuss the development of culture and heritage-based tourism and share information, ideas and experiences. Later, an evening of performances showcased Chevery’s talented musicians, and the singing and dancing went on late into the night! The Tradeshow was a great success, with many unique locally-made products for sale. This was followed by an evening of stories, poetry and drama.
The week ended on a high note with the annual Chevery summer carnival featuring games and prizes, water sports at the marina, and a big community potluck. The children participating in the Heritage Camp also built a bridge with found objects to symbolise the links between the past, present and future and all the communities of the Coast, which was unveiled at the celebrations. The Community Hall was full of food and folk and a great time was had by all!
Congratulations to Chevery's Culture and Tourism association, the Festival of the Arts, Conference and Tradeshow organizing committee and the many volunteers that made this week's events so successful.
